New improvements were announced for the Baru district, where Coco Beach is located. Last week various government officials held a presentation for a gathered crowd with the development plans for town of Puerto Armuelles, around a 15 minute drive from Coco Beach. They presented a plan to renew the old pier, previously used by Chiquita Bananas, to a new multi-purpose pier. The main purpose would be to attract tourism and promote small businesses in the area. In addition to the pier, projects such as a new Boulevard (Malecón) and upgrading the small Airport are part of the new plans for the area. The governmental agencies who were present, are currently starting studies and legal processes, and are planning to start in 2021 with the construction of these improvements.
